about me
I’m Cyrus Norcross — a Diné (Navajo) poet, journalist, and filmmaker.
I make visual art to slow things down, to catch what slips between the cracks.
Whether it’s through my camera lens, a line in a notebook, or a moment on film, I’m drawn to what most people overlook.
I published my debut poetry book, When the Sun Rises: A collection of haiku shaped by memory, survival, and the silence that follows war. It also introduces Pathku, a new poetic form built on restraint and reflection.
I’m from the Navajo Nation. That background influences everything I do, whether I’m writing, filming, or simply speaking with others.
Before all this, I served as a U.S. Army Ranger, deploying across Iraq and Afghanistan. After the war, I turned to storytelling, first through photojournalism, then through film and poetry.
My journalism work has been featured in Navajo Times, Indian Country Today, Outside Magazine and others.
I have two short stories in Violence of Action: The Untold Stories of the 75th Ranger Regiment in the War on Terror, and a poem in So Long: The Anthology of Poet Warrior Vol III.
The world moves fast.
I’m not chasing noise,
I’m here to catch what others miss.
To slow down.
To capture the moments that still matter.
